Here are the steps to install each type of SoLuna copper bathroom sink: vessel sink, drop-in sink, and undermount sink.
Installing a SoLuna Copper Vessel Sink
Materials Needed:
- Vessel sink
- Pop-up drain
- Faucet
- Basin wrench
- Silicone sealant
- Plumber’s tape
- Wrench
Steps:
- Prepare the vanity:
- Ensure there is a pre-drilled hole on the countertop large enough to accommodate the drain of the vessel sink but not larger than the sink base itself. For some materials like granite or quartz, you may need professional tools or help to make precise cuts.
- Position the sink:
- Place the copper vessel sink on the vanity countertop, aligning it with the pre-drilled hole.
- Install the faucet:
- If your faucet is a vessel-style faucet, install it at the recommended height, making sure the spout is high enough to clear the sink. Secure the faucet in place following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Install the pop-up drain:
- Apply plumber’s tape to the drain threads.
- Insert the drain through the sink and into the hole in the countertop.
- Secure the drain from underneath the countertop using a wrench, making sure it is tightly sealed.
- Apply silicone sealant under the sink where it meets the countertop to secure the sink.
- Connect the plumbing:
- Attach the water supply lines to the faucet and connect the drain assembly to the plumbing system.
- Final checks:
- Tighten all connections and check for leaks once the water is turned on.
- Wax Sink:
Installing a SoLuna Copper Drop-In Bathroom Sink
Materials Needed:
- Drop-in sink
- Faucet
- Pop-up drain
- Silicone sealant
- Basin wrench
- Plumber’s tape
Steps:
- Prepare the vanity:
- Ensure the countertop has a cut-out that matches the size of the sink's dimensions. Adjust if necessary. We recommend that you place sink upside down on countertop and mark countertop by tracing edge of sink basin.
- Inside this outline, mark a smaller cut line about 1/2 inch inside the traced line (this is to accommodate the lip of the sink).
- Install the faucet and drain:
- Before dropping the sink into the vanity, install the faucet and the pop-up drain onto the sink per manufacturer instructions. This is easier than installing after the sink is in place.
- Apply silicone sealant:
- Be sure to clean the countertop and the underside of the rim of the copper sink with rubbing alcohol. Remove any dust or debris that could get trapped beneath the sink's rim.
- Apply a thin bead of silicone sealant around the bottom of the rim of the sink where it will meet the countertop.
- Place the sink:
- Carefully drop the sink into the countertop cutout. Ensure it sits flat on the surface and press down gently to allow the silicone to seal.
- Secure the sink:
- Use clamps to secure the basin to the countertop and hold the sink in place while the silicone is drying.
- Connect the plumbing:
- Attach the water supply lines and drain to the sink, making sure all connections are tight.
- Final checks:
- Turn on the water and check for leaks around the drain and supply lines.
- Wax Sink:
Installing a SoLuna Copper Undermount Bathroom Sink
Materials Needed:
- Undermount sink
- Silicone sealant
- Mounting clips/brackets
- Basin wrench
- Plumber’s tape
Steps:
- Prepare the vanity:
- Ensure the countertop is cut precisely for the sink and the edges are smooth. The cutout must match the sink's dimensions.
- Install mounting hardware:
- Attach mounting clips to the underside of the countertop. Depending on the sink style, some will come with mounting kits. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for placement and spacing of clips.
- Apply silicone sealant:
- Be sure to clean the underside of the countertop and the rim of the copper sink with rubbing alcohol. Remove any dust or debris that could might be on the top of the sink's rim.
- Run a bead of silicone sealant around the top side of the rim of the sink where it will meet the countertop.
- Attach the sink:
- Carefully place the sink under the countertop, aligning it with the hole. Secure the sink in place using the mounting clips and tighten them to pull the sink up against the countertop.
- Wipe away any excess silicone that squeezes out.
- Install the faucet and drain:
- Install the faucet and pop-up drain if they are not already installed. Connect the plumbing system (supply lines and drain assembly).
- Let the sealant cure:
- Allow the silicone sealant to cure for at least 24 hours before using the sink.
- Final checks:
- Once the silicone has cured, check all connections for leaks and ensure the sink is securely fastened.
- Wax Sink:
Each type of sink installation requires slightly different preparation and installation methods, but with the right tools and careful attention to detail, you can achieve a professional-looking result.
