Copper Sinks Online is happy to introduce our interior designer profile series. This month we are talking to Joann Kandrac of Kandrac & Kole Interior Designs, Inc.
How long have you been in the interior design industry?
What inspired you to become an interior designer?
When I moved to Atlanta from Cleveland, I started working at an Interior Design store. I knew in a short time I had found my calling.
How would you describe your style?
Who is your favorite designer? Who inspires you?
Tobi Fairley is my favorite designer but I am very inspired by Nate Berkus and his idea of only using things that “matter”.
Describe your design process.
I always start with an inspiration, whether it be fabric, art or an interesting accessory that will be a “WOW” in the room and have that set the tone for the entire space.
What are your favorite projects that you’ve completed in your career and why?
One of my favorite spaces created is a master bathroom for an 87-year-old client. Her main request was a claw foot bathtub. We had the outside painted black with silver claw feet and added a gorgeous black and white wall covering and a vanity painted apple green with a Carrara marble top. She says it makes her so happy and yes, she does use the tub!! (I have only included the rendering of this bathroom, we are having it professionally photographed next month).
One of our other favorite projects is charity work that we’ve done through Room Service Atlanta for The United Methodist Children’s Home. These are youth who are part of the Independent Living Program in the foster care system. We designed a hangout/game room for 17 to 21-year-old boys in the fall and then in the spring a girls cottage in a vintage and coastal theme.
